Denaturants are ingredients added to ethyl alcohol to make it unsuitable for ingestion. The materials used usually have an intensely bitter taste that renders the alcohol unpalatable. The use and the requirements for denaturants in the U.S. are controlled by the U.S. Department of Treasury, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The materials listed below are the constituents of the formulas for denaturing ethanol specified in Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 21, for use in cosmetic products. |
