Corn/Callus/Wart Removers are active ingredients used in corn, callus and wart remover products. In the U.S., in 21CFR358.503, a corn and callus remover is defined as "a topical agent used for the removal of corns and calluses." See 21CFR358.510 for a listing of the active drug ingredients. In a separate regulation in 21CFR358.103(a), a wart remover is defined as "a topical agent used for the removal of common or plantar warts." See 21CFR358.110 for a listing of the active drug ingredients. In the EU and other countries, corn/callus/wart remover products are considered to be cosmetics, and are controlled under cosmetic regulations which may not require pre-clearance or pre-market approval of active ingredients. In Japan, corn/callus/wart remover agents may be regarded as drugs subject to pre-approval requirements. The listing below includes those ingredients reported to be safe and effective for use in U.S. over-the-counter (OTC) drug products. These ingredients may also have a cosmetic purpose in cosmetic formulations.
