The term unsaponifiables refers to lipid components of natural Fats and Oils which are not hydrolyzed and remain soluble in lipid solvents after alkaline hydrolysis. They normally occur only in small amounts in nature. The composition of unsaponifiables varies from source to source and may include Hydrocarbons, complex Fatty Alcohols, and Ethers. Sterols (e.g., Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sterols), Abietyl Alcohol, Batyl Alcohol, and Squalene are some of the compounds found in mixtures of unsaponifiables.
These ingredients are used in cosmetics for specialty applications. |
